Mirror Processing

Our mirror are high clarity float glass with a copper free moisture resistant  high quality silvering with low lead protective layers. So, can be processed in the same way as normal float glass. Mirror processing we can carry out include:

Edge-Work Smoothing
For a plain minimal look mirror; the sharp edge can be just smoothed off or ground.  Having just the sharp edge smoothed off is usually the most cost effective type of processing and can be done on 3mm, 4mm or 6mm thickness mirrors.  It's safer and still fairly neat without chipped edge.  Ideal anywhere the side of the edge is not seen easily (e.g. in a recess or cabinet etc.). If an exact size is not needed, there are cheaper standard sizes available; see our stock mirrors page for more information.

Edge-Work Polishing
If the edge is in a clearly visible location then usually a fully polished edge looks best.  This is where the edge is ground down to size then buffed up to a shiny polished finish.  We can polish edges that's  4mm or thicker.  It costs a little more and takes a little longer to produce, but it gives a highly finished look. If an exact size is not needed, there are cheaper standard size polished edge mirrors available; see our stock mirrors page for more information.

Edge-Work Bevelling
A bevel is a decorative chamfer that is usually over 10mm.  Although we can get bevels as small as 6mm and up to the most popular 25mm wide processed on 4mm thickness.  Or up to 35mm wide on 6mm and thicker.  However it takes a longer to process and costs more than polishing, but can look really good on some walls or in some frames (note we are currently unable to produce bevels on curved edges, and there are machine size limitations).  If an exact size is not needed, there are cheaper standard size bevelled edge mirrors available; see our stock mirrors page for more information.

Mirror Drilling
We can drill mirrors with holes for fixing (usually 6mm or 7mm diameter).  We can also drill larger holes if needed; just let us know the diameter size required and location when contacting us and we will work it out for you.

Mirror Cut-Outs
Straight square or rectangle cut outs can be processed on mirrors.  Either in the corner, external edge or set internally.  This enable fitting of the glass around fixtures.  However note, we can only smooth the cut out edge and each corner requires rounded radius to process and reduce breakage risk.

Sand-Blasting
It is possible to sand-blast designs on mirrors. Simple sand-blasted borders can enhance a mirror to slightly more decorative designs.  Although please note that it can take a few weeks to produce.  All our sand-blasted mirrors come with protective Ritec coating as standard, so it won't mark or spoil easily.

CNC Shape Processing
Fairly complex shapes can be made from mirrors providing there is a rigid hardboard or plywood template with a clean edge to run through the machine. CNC shapes with polishged edges are also possible.

Decorative Overlay Lead-Mirrors
Using external grade 99% natural overlay lead with silver, darkened or brass colour moisture resistant coating we can produce bespoke mirrors designs to order.  From simple border designs to more intricate designs with colour/obscure effects and/or bonded bevels.  We have some designs and ready made mirrors in shop, but if you have your own you would like a price for then please feel free to ask.

Note: We are unable to run mirror though toughening furnace, and have not found a good enough quality toughenable mirror that we would be happy to supply. However we can add either safety backing to protect the mirror from splintering dangerously if broken, or foil backing to protect the silvering from premature moisture corrosion. Which are great solutions to if being used in exposed areas, whilst keeping the quality. Just ask when contacting us.
