On the 1st April 2002 all replacement windows and doors came within the scope of building regulations for England and Wales. This means that any replacement windows and doors to your home are subject to the requirements of these regulations.
If your windows are not registered directly with your Local Authority by form of a building notice or by a certified body then you will have problems when selling your home. As the purchaser's solicitor will require evidence via the registration that the windows and doors conform to the relevant regulations.
From 1st October 2010 new/updated regulations came in effect regarding the Conservation of fuel and power. This includes improvements to replacement windows & doors U Value (energy efficiency). Windows now require a U-Value of 1.6 or better, a rating of C or better or a Fensa IGU default compliance method - which means using a quality soft-coat glass, Argon gas and warm-edge spacer. All our made to measure windows and doors include this glass set up, and the windows can also be supplied with an A-Rating certificate too if wanted (if ordered before manufacture).
Note: Building notices or a installer certified body certificate isn't required for some other work such as replacement glass to existing frames, however building regulations still apply such as safety glass being required in critical areas.
